What I've worked on since the initial rollout.

So I've done a few things since the initial rollout. The first thing I completed was created a contact page. It works and I'm receiving email. So far %100 of the emails I get are from people wanting to sell me SEO services. I'm not interested in SEO servcices, so they basically go into the virtual trash.

Another thing that I've added is the ability to save whether or not the transaction is reconciled to the account. When I enter transactions, I like to see whether or not the money has actually hit the account or has been taken out. This was a pretty common practice when a paper checkbook was a thing, and it's still relevant today I think. Many times it'll take at least a couple of days for a payment to show up, and I think it's useful to differentiate between what is in the account and what is still being processed.

Another thing I put in was a privacy policy. Privacy and and fraud prevention are going to be a huge deal when it comes to this site. In a nutshell I have no plans on using anyone's information for anything, but I don't know how I can help people believe that. I can put all the FAQ's and promises I can up that I'm not doing anything unruly, but I can't just convince someone I'm not going to do something, especially when it comes to financial data.

For the moment I'm just concentrating on making the site a nice paper checkbook replacement. This means worst case scenario I might know your transaction history and maybe your email address but that's it. For the moment I'm not planning on having the site be able to contact financial institutions to pull in transactions, because that is really sensitive data and I don't want to tackle that just yet.

Eventually I would like to but for now since nobody uses the site or is even aware of it (other than SEO firms) I'm not going to worry about it. Once I get closer to that point, I will start looking into 3rd party verification systems that can verify my site is legit, but that is costly so for now I'm just going to do my best to make sure people understand I'm not doing this to farm data.

I like how the site is working at the moment. I'm using it to track my finances, at least my checking and savings accounts. I will probably work on some reporting functions and maybe work on the look and feel of the parts of the site that don't require a login to try to give more information about the functionality.

I will probably put an FAQ page up for the questions I think people would have, and start looking into ways of pulling in credit card transactions that don't require me asking for user access to another site. I'm wondering if there's a to export and import data manually? I don't know. These are things that require research and time to implement. I'll try to keep this blog informed of what's going on.

Till then I'll keep using the site for myself and make whatever tweaks and updates I think I need in order to keep improving.
